Kingdom of Opalia

The Kingdom of Opalia is a Nation State on Tanarsus, and a member of the Tanarsus Empire Preservation Treaty. It can trace its history back to the earliest days of colonization when private corporate colony ships founded settlements that later splintered off from the primary superpowers. It was involved in the Tanarsus World War and proved victorious against the Cambaderan Alliance. It is currently under-siege by German forces who have invaded Tanarsus as part of the Soviet-German War.

History
Background
Like many of the nations states found throughout the Orion Region, the Kingdom of Opalia can trace its origins to the colonization corporations of the early 2100s. The Opalia Corporation, a major player in privately owned colonization had sent dozens of colony ships to various sites sanctioned by the Democratic Federation. Such sites were usually little more than baron rocks and required months, if not years of terraforming to make them suitable for human life. While the Democratic Federation gave huge incentives to companies who settled on these worlds, for a smaller company like Opalia, it became much too costly to maintain, and many of its colonies were sold to the Erdrick Colonization Corporation, or simply absorbed by the various DemFed governments.
Colonization
However, when word reached Federation news agencies that a treaty had been signed between the Soviet Union and the Greater German Reich, preventing either party from laying claim to the Tanarus system, the Opalia Corporation saw it as a great opportunity. While it wouldn’t gain the incentives from the Federation, it wouldn’t need them to survive on a world so perfectly suited for human life.
In 2124 a little under a dozen colony ships, totalled at about 500,000 people landed on the planets north-eastern continent and quickly set up various settlements, mining and agriculture centers. A Japanese corporation, Kozashi Enterprises had also settled on the continent, and in 2134 the two groups merged, sharing their resources and manpower. The next 100 years saw great changes; all the great superpowers of the Orion Region were were in a period of great economic depression. Having overextended their colonization programs, outer colonies such as Tanarsus could no longer count on the support of their respective governments. The Opalian Kingdom, along with the other nation states of Tanarsus effectively became sovereign nations.
Superpower Interference
Throughout the late 2100s and early 2200s the Kingdom of Opalia developed diplomatic relations with the other nations of Tanarsus, and to a limited extent, some other interstellar powers such as the Soviet Union and Anglo-Canadian Kingdom. After the Greater German Reich sponsored the creation of the Cambadera Alliance, The Kingdom of Opalia joined the Tanarsus Empire Preservation Treaty. Despite its ideological differences with the other nations of the treaty, the Kingdom’s longtime enemy, Galleria, had joined the Alliance, and Opalia would need allies to deter any offensive action.
Tanarsus World War
The situation deteriorated further until in 2246 the Opalian Kingdom was attacked by the forces of Galleria, sparking the Tanarsus World War While initially unprepared, Opalia eventually counter-attacked Galleria and with the help of the other TEPT nations, defeated the Cambadera Alliance. After the conflict Opalian troops were stationed in Galleria and Cambadera for peacekeeping duties.
Recent History
The Opalian Kingdom had made a recovery following the defeat of the Cambaderan Alliance, and along with the other TEPT members began to rebuild their economies. However, in 2275 hostility between the Soviet Union and the Greater German Reich rose to such a point where the two superpowers were basically in a stage of undeclared war. In 2281 the Greater German Reich invaded Tanarsus, landing in Cambadera and Galleria, the TEPT nations attempted to mount a defense but were overwhelmed by the technological superiority of the German equipment. Soviet divisions we’re stationed on the planet after the Tanarsus World War in a peacekeeping role, but are too few to mount a formidable defense.
Foreign Relations
The Opalian Kingdoms closest allies are the Sygrabado Provinces and the Ashlind Peoples Republic. Its interstellar position is relatively neutral, with a history of dealing with both the Soviet Union, Brazilian Unitary, and Anglo-Canadian Kingdom.
Armed Forces

The Opalian Kingdom maintains a standing Army, Air Force, and Navy. Its FTL fleet is limited to smaller frigates and corvettes, with most of its space fleet belonging to the Merchant Marine. Opalian defense strategy has been based around its air force, relying on it to fend off any attack both in orbit and inner atmosphere.
