Overview

Border skirmishes between the Scinfaxi and human nations suddenly increased in 2122 with an intensity not seen since the First Scinfaxi War. It is widely believed that this was a mere probing attack to test human military response and their newly developed technologies. Another possibility is that it was the result of Scinfaxi retribution due to the Democratic Federation's Operation: Frontier Shield. It started with the loss of a few number designated colonies on Eastern Frontier and climaxed with a Human victory in the Battle of Nantes. While not as widespread or devastating as the First Scinfaxi War, it is notable for the first combat between Human and Scinfaxi star ships and even though Humanity won the second Scinfaxi war, this was only due to the fact that the invading Scinfaxi fleet consisted of only a dozen ships, while the Human forces numbers in the hundreds.

Scinfaxi Forces Invade

2122 was a very rough year for the Liberty 94th Exploration Division. During an exploration expedition in star system S1-1354 (Hrim), a Scinfaxi fleet of 12 ships attacked and destroyed Exploration Expedition St. Louis. The only survivors of the attack were a single wing of scout planes based from the Stealth Carrier USS Clarke. They wing jumped out of system and headed for Starbase: Sierra, which was the division's base of operations on the frontier. The Scinfaxi fleet picked up their jump scar however, and followed in pursuit. Before the Starbase itself was destroyed, The commanding officer was able to transmit a warning to High Command, via a relay station on Nantes. Later that week, The Democratic Federation had declared war of the Scinfaxi fleet responsible. The second Scinfaxi war had begun.

The Federation Responds

As soon as war had been declared, the 10th Naval Division, the 247th Anglo-Canadian Flotilla, and the 31st Naval Division were sent to intercept the Scinfaxi Forces at Nantes. The fleet numbered at 547 Support ships, and 23 capital ships. The fleet was well armed and outfitted with the greatest and most powerful ships the Federation had to offer at the time. The Battle of Nantes waged for seven days, and everyday the Federation took staggering losses. By the end of the battle there were only 4 Capital Ships and 263 support ships remaining. All of the ships that were lost, were lost to the well armed Scinfaxi Retribution Fleet a single Scinfaxi ship managed to limp away from the engagement. Although the day went to the Humans, France warned the Ruling council on Liberty IV that the attackers were most likely only probing the defenses of the frontier and the retaliatory capabilities of the Democratic Federation Peacekeeping Forces. Due to the staggering losses, The Democratic Federation pumped trillions of credits into upgrading the fleet, based on the ships fought during the battle.

Results of the War

Due to the fleet of derelict Scinfaxi ships in high orbit over Nantes, The Democratic Federation Intelligence Agency (DFIA)assumed control of the world. Where a massive scientific starbase/ship yard was constructed to reverse engineer the captured technology. The direct result was the introduced of highly advanced electric armor plating with regenerative properties. This put the defensive aspects of the Federation's ships and structures far ahead of the other Human nations. Advanced warp drives were also captured and incorporated into the ever growing collection of Scinfaxi Artifacts and technology in the possession of the Democratic Federation.
